Review | YSL Shocking Mascara

Hi lovelies.

I recently discovered the website 'What's in My Handbag' where you can upload snap shots of  your bags and nose through others as well. I did my exploring on the website and discovered that there is a section called Try. Every week a new product sample is put online and you can apply to receive a sample to test out. What a brilliant idea right? I applied for the first time last week and was chuffed to receive a sample of the YSL Shocking Mascara.

It turned up looking all lovely with a special sticker with my name on! (I was too eager to open it and forgot to photograph it.) Inside the package was the sample and a card with information about the mascara and the website. It was like Christmas when I ripped open the packaging, I have heard so many great things about YSL Shocking Mascara from many different beauty bloggers.

The wand has bristles of different lenghts that twist round the brush meaning that every lash is coated when applying. The wand is quite long as well, which makes application very easy if you take care. It combs through the lashes well and dispenses an even amount of the mascara, which feels creamy on the eyelashes! It also has a floral scent, which is unusual for a mascara but is actually very pleasant.

My "naked lashes" are fairly black anyway and a decent length. I am quite lucky with eyelashes to be fair, not with anything else though I promise!

I love the result this mascara gives. Two coats gave me really long and thick lashes with quite a lot of volume. There was no clumping and the consistency was not too thick or too gloopy. It gives a dramatic effect that may be more suited for evening time, but I couldn't care less and wear it all day. It does not flake off either!

I am not sure if I would pay £23 for this but if I can get a good discount at work I may have to treat myself as it really is incredible! I want to get my hands on my own beautiful gold tube! YSL Shocking Mascara can be purchased here.
Have you tried anything by YSL?

  1. This is on my try next list my favourite is EL Sumptuous Extreme but it dries out sooo fast so I begrudge paying for it as its not cheap. X

  2. Wow Ellie! Your naked lashes are amazing! I got sent the YSL false lash effect by WIMH but wasn't too impressed with it. This one looks great though!
