Review | January Birchbox

Hi lovelies,

I was lucky enough to win a 3 month subscription to Jolie Box at the BBloggersXmas Event last year. Jolie Box has become Birchbox and I have been eagerly waiting for my January Birchbox box to arrive in the post. I have personally never been signed up to a beauty box as I did not think that you always got your moneys worth with the samples inside, but I was thrilled to win this subscription.
The postwoman at university was really intrigued by the bright pink box she presented me with. Inside this box is the actual Birchbox, opening that is a pink pouch filled with the goodies! I love the packaging and will be keeping it to reuse it.

I loved the Birchbox magazine which talks about the theme of the box being a 'fresh start'. The first product is a sample of I Coloniali Deep Body Massage Cream. I've never heard of this brand before, a full size of this product is pricey at £35 so I hope I do not love it! The next product is a sample of KMS California Free Shape quick blow dry spray. It has two separate layers that work to detangle and softer hair whilst making it blow dry faster. Inside Birchbox there was also a Teapigs peppermint tummy tonic tea sample, my Dad has enjoyed this as I am not a tea drinker! Being a lip product lover I am excited to use the fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment, a balm that keeps lips flake free, soft and has spf15! There is also a small sample of the WEI Jujube age control serum, I am trying to get into using a serum on my skin and this one claims to reduce redness and fine lines. It is very expensive with a full size product costing £60 so I expect big things. The last sample in the box is the Taaj Creme Mains Delhicates Hand Cream, this is a good sample size from the French brand many people rave about. It is enriched with shea butter and smells of cinnamon.

Overall I am happy to have samples of brands I have never used before to try out, from first impressions I would probably not repurchase any of the products because they are either too pricey or not necessary something that interest me but will let you know once I have used them :)

A subscription to Birchbox costs £10 a month plus p&P.*

Review | Real Techniques Starter Set

Hi lovelies,

I put this on my Christmas list and was lucky enough to receive it from my brother. I have wanted to add it to my Real Techniques brush collection for ages. They are by far the best brushes I have ever used. They are affordable and easy to get hold of in Boots. I own the Core Collection and the Blush Brush, I aim to own every other one from the range very soon! The Real Techniques Starter Set comes in the same compact case as the Core Collection. It is a handy case to have as it perfectly holds all the brushes and it also works as a stand. In the set you get five brushes that are designed to give you a high definition make up look

The Deluxe Crease Brush is the biggest brush with a dome shape that is designed for contouring, I personally find this brush is brilliant for concealer. The Base Shadow Brush is the second biggest brush and is designed to apply a smooth and flawless foundation of colour, this brush is brilliant for applying colour all over the eyelid. The Brow Brush is designed to shape and define eyebrows, I use this everyday now and do not remember how I sorted my eyebrows out before I had this! The Accent Brush is is designed for precise detailing, I use this for highlighting, smudging and contouring. The last brush is the Pixel-Point Eyeliner Brush has a tapered brush and is designed for dense or fine eyeliner application, I have been using this for applying eye shadow as eyeliner and smudging it.

All of these brushes are incredibly soft and make applying make up so much easier. They clean well and do not shed at all. The brushes are lightweight too and I love the design. If you are looking to add a few more brushes to your collection or even start one I would definitely recommend this.

The Starter Set costs £21 and can be picked up from Boots.
Are you as in love with Real Techniques as me?

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia

I am a lip balm fanatic. I know this is probably not a good thing considering the more you apply it the more you need it, but I always have lots of lip balms in my bag. I am always wearing some form of lip product and love the easiness of tinted lip balms. You can keep lips moisturised but still have a pop of colour.

I have never used anything from Burt's Bees before so was really excited by this product. The Burt's Bees Lip Balm in Red Dahlia* that comes in a brown tube style packaging. It kind of made me think the product inside may be bigger or that the outside packaging was not really necessary, but it does look more luxurious.

Red Dahlia is a deep red colour in the tube but is actually really sheer. It took about three swiped to get a decent enough swatch to show up on camera. It is very sheer and not overly pigmented, but it is a tinted lip balm so pigmentation is not the priority. I am not really disappointed by the sheerness as it is nice to have a product that is really easy to where but I was quite surprised. I absolutely love the texture of the Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm, it is really creamy and glides onto the lips so smoothly. I love the fruity scent too, which is not overpowering. It is 100% natural and has shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax to make it extra moisturising. I do like this as it leaves my lips feeling very soft and hydrated with a slight hint of colour, but I think I would like it even more and probably purchase one if it was more pigmented.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm costs £5.99 from Debenhams.
Have you tried anything from Burt's Bees?

Review | One Line A Day

I have actually never been someone who enjoys writing, but since starting my blog last year I have really enjoyed taking the time to write things down (well type). I have never been motivated enough to keep a diary as to be honest my life is not very interesting so I would never have enough to say.
I purchased the One Line A Day Memory Book over the New Year and think it is a really great idea. The concept is that you write down a line every day for five years on the same page for the date so you can look back and see how you have changed or what you were up too in the previous years. I have been loving sitting down each night writing a small thing before I go to bed, it is a good way to remember what I have done and any thoughts or feelings I had at the time. The journal itself is a lovely pale blue colour with gold edging and bookmark. I think this is a great thing to own and commit too, plus it would make a lovely gift!

I purchased this off of Amazon for about £7! Do you keep a diary or would you be interested in starting five year journal like this one?

Organic Surge Shine Boost Shampoo and Conditioner

Hi lovelies,

I was recently contacted by Natures Healthbox, a new website I am really excited about. It has been set up by Jon, Keely and Kerri, they are all passionate about natural, organic and eco-friendly products. Natures Healthbox is the place where you can go to purchase organic and natural beauty products and get top customer service. Natures Healthbox offered to send me samples of products they will be selling on their website to review, obviously I said yes and waited excitedly to see what organic products I would be receiving for testing and reviewing.

In my opinion my hair is rubbish. It is different every day but is always dull, with frizz and lacking moisture. I am working on my haircare, testing out different oils and serums to try and restore some life and health back into my hair so I was really excited to have been sent organic hair care targeted at boosting shine.

Organic Surge Shine Boost Shampoo* contains organic grapefruit oils and citrus essential oils. It washes away all the dirt, impurities and residue from any products that may be sitting in your hair and weighing it down. Shine Boost Shampoo is formulated to cleanse and nourish hair, leaving it soft and healthy with natural shine. The citrus oils promote shine and the natural moisturisers smooth and gloss the hair.

I was really looking forward to using the Shine Boost Shampoo as it does not contain any of the chemicals most shampoos have that are used to foam or lather when washing hair. The shampoo is a transparent gel like consistency that lathers up fairly well considering it is organic and chemical free. I like the citrus fragrance and find it very refreshing to use, and it leaves my hair smelling clean.

Organic Surge Shine Boost Conditioner* is also free from bad chemicals and is completely organic. It also contains citrus and grapefruit oils to boost shine. Unlike the shampoo it has grape seed oil and wheat protein in to smooth out and detangle the hair. There is also vitamin E and natural moisturisers to protect, smooth and gloss the hair. It also has a strong citrus fragrance I like but others may not.

Shine Boost Conditioner is a creamy consistency that is easy to run through the lengths of my hair to dispense the product evenly. I apply this everywhere except near the scalp and leave it to work for a few minutes and then rinse off. It leaves my hair feeling clean and fragranced but not too strongly so that it overpowers my perfume. It does not completely detangle my hair on its own (my hair is a mane) but with one brush of my tangle teezer after drying it is tangle free.

Overall I have really liked the Shine Boost Shampoo and Conditioner. Together they do increase the shine of my hair, not so that it looks greasy, but enough so it looks healthy and looked after. In my opinion the best thing about the two products is how clean they leave my hair feeling, when I use them I really feel like I am getting all the residue and built up product out of my hair but not stripping all the natural oils out of it. They give my hair some life and a bit of volume and stop it looking so dull.

I am impressed and would repurchase these products, especially considering that they are organic!
I am really looking forward to using Natures Healthbox and getting into properly taking after my hair, skin and body with organic and natural products!

Review | MAC Vegas Volt

Hi lovelies,

I recently picked up my first few MAC lipsticks. It's safe to say they are a luxury item for me as they are a bit pricey for a lipstick when you are on a student budget, but then having a loan means I am allowed to treat myself to a few luxuries every now and then right? I asked which lipstick shades I should have a look at and Vegas Volt was one of the most popular choices.

Obviously I love the packaging, everybody does! You pay for what you get and I feel like this is worth the extra money over a drugstore lipstick as it is beautiful. It is sleek and classic and just makes me happy when I look at it. The sound when the lid clicks back onto the tube is so satisfying! Yes I know, I am weird.

Vegas Volt is an Amplified finish. From what I have read this means they tend to be extremely pigmented, creamy and bright. Honestly I cannot compare the finishes of the MAC lipsticks as this is my first one!

Vegas Volt is a gorgeous, bright coral shade which is quite warm, meaning pretty much any skin tone could get away with wearing it, even us pale girls. It has hints of pink and orange that blend together beautifully leaving one of the nicest corals I have ever seen. Vegas Volt is bold and it will get you noticed but it is cool enough to be worn in the daytime and not look over the top, not that I would care! You would also easily be able to tone it down with a lip gloss or by blending it out.

This is the most pigmented lipstick I have ever owned, one swatch is more pigmentation than I would have ever expected. It is so incredibly creamy, it has a very smooth texture and feels so soft. It did not pull or tug on my lips when I applied it, and it felt very moisturising too. The lipstick also has a lovely sweet and vanillery scent, which I really love.

Vegas Volt lasted about four hours before I felt the need to touch it up in some parts. I did find that it tends to leave a subtle stain on my lips too, which is really nice. It is probably more of a summer colour but I will be wearing it all year round! At £14 it is slightly pricey, but you are paying for the brand name and the quality is worth the extra pennies.

Go and swatch it for yourself in store and try not to fall in love!

Vegas Volt costs £14 and can be picked up online or in most department stores.
Have you tried Vegas Volt? What is your favourite MAC lipstick shade?

p.s A big thank you to everyone for the support this past week, it is a horrible time at the moment for me but your comments and messages have made me feel that I am not alone and people do care, x x

Review | Viva La Juicy

I purchased Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture as part of a gift set in the sales. I have wanted it for a really long time and did not even hesitate when I bought it. Personally Juicy Couture is not a brand I would ever go to for clothes or accessories, but for some reason I am really drawn to their perfumes.

I adore the bottle. It is so pretty and I will probably end up keeping it when it runs out. Some people may find it a bit much with the big pink bow but I really like it and the 'couture' hanging bit (technical term). Obviously describing a scent is difficult, but this is gorgeous. It is sweet, playful and feminine. I think its quite a young scent but it is quite light so it is easy to wear. Viva La Juicy has top notes of wild berries and mandarin, with honeysuckle, gardenia and jasmine. The base notes are caramel, vanilla, sandalwood and praline. This gives the perfume a lovely fruity and floral fragrance that is sweet but with warmth. I really have fallen in love with this perfume and am reaching for it a lot, however I am really disappointed by the lasting power. It is not very strong and I feel like I need to apply more than usual to make it noticeable on me and after a couple of hours I can't smell it on my skin anymore, a real shame as it is so lovely and pricey!
Juicy Couture please make the formula better!

Have you smelt Viva La Juicy and fallen for it like me?

Review | Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter

This is the second product from the Soap & Glory Best Of All set that I have tried and fallen in love with. I am working my way through the products and testing throughly so I can bring you the most honest reviews I can! I have honestly never used a body butter before, not even the famous Body Shop ones that everyone has a favourite of.

So my skin is rubbish! I have never been proactive enough to bother with moisturising properly after baths or showers. I know, I am rubbish. Soap & Glory have a large range of lotions and body butters that moisturise your skin, obviously I want to try them all. The Righteous Butter is the one I have heard the most about and have always longed to try. It is a thick and creamy body butter that is said to work brilliantly on very dry skin. I love all Soap & Glory packaging and the tub is perfect as you can scoop out the right amount of product you need without wasting away.

I have actually fallen in love with everything about The Righteous Butter. The scent is absolute gorgeous. I think it is the typical Soap & Glory scent that most of the original products have (don't quote me though) if you do not like fragranced skin care then definitely stay clear. The texture is very creamy but it is not actually to heavy, it is so easy to apply and sinks in really quickly to the skin without leaving it feeling greasy or oily. It contains shea butter and aloe vera to lock in moisture and keep skin soft. It really does leave my skin feeling moisturised and soft, even the next day my skin is still smelling lovely and feeling great. I think it is also available in a pump bottle and lotion formulas if a body butter is to thick for you! I love it and will definitely be repurchasing this whenever it runs out, even though I will be trying other products from the range.

The Righteous Butter costs £10.50 from Boots.
Have you tried this or any of the other body moisturisers from Soap & Glory before?

All advertising packages are half price if booked before Jan 31st here!
